Road Bike Tires
Having really good road bike tires on your bike is very important. And that doesn’t change whether you are riding your bike a lot or not. The expression is where the rubber meets the road is true. Your tires are the business part of the bike and you need good, sturdy and strong tires to take all the abuse our roads give them and help you get around.
Now when we talk about bike tires we usually are talking about the rubber tire but some people might also refer to the wheels as the tires and believe me they are the foundation of a good set of tires. You maybe have the most modern road bike available but if the wheels aren't very good you will be disappointed in your bikes performance. Some people will say the wheels are the most important part of any bike others the second most. In either case that makes them crucial. They dictate four things, ride, comfort, speed and agility.
Aluminum rims are the standard today for all round good wheel set. They usually use stainless steel spokes and are really very durable. They are also the most inexpensive. But to complete the wheel set you are going to need some good rubber and that is what we are really talking about here.
Bicycle tires are for sure the primary reason people bring their bikes into get worked on. Usually people have to replace the tires on their bike several times during its life. There are many styles and types of bike tires to choose from and the prices range tremendously. I just bought some new tires for while I’m training indoors and they were $15. But the tires I use out on the road are closer to $100 and they can be a lot more.
Fortunately, manufacturers today provide an excellent rang of bike tires for just about any purpose. Some have puncture armor to protect from flats to ones that conform well to the road to provide unbelievable handling. Others utilize a dual-compound tread that makes them durable for long wear and yet sticky on the sides to give great grip. There are a remarkable selection of features and benefits.
The thing you need to do is make sure you know the possibilities and choose what works best for you. Make sure you don’t buy tires that are from an unknown company as they might not be the quality that you need or be fast or durable. So make sure you get tires that are known for outstanding performance. And the tires should be good for use in almost any kind of weather unless of course you change them specifically depending on the event you are in.
Road bike tires have to be able to handle the impact of all the bumps and potholes you have to deal with these days and yet resist punctures from that and any debris on the road. They also need to grip the road so that you can corner as well as provide traction even on wet roads. With all that they have to deal with they frequently need to be replaced. Don’t wait until they are completely worn out and become dangerous. This will lead to poor traction, falls or blowouts.
Check them regularly and know when they need to be replaced. Be proactive and replace your road bike tires as soon as they show signs of wear.
